Analysis: NLCS Total of the Year. My selection is on the 'under' between Milwaukee and Los Angeles at 8 pm et on Wednesday. The starting pitching matchup doesn't exactly scream 'duel' ahead of Game 3 of the NLCS as a pair of left-handers take the mound in Robert Gasser and Blake Snell. I think a lot of bettors are approaching it the wrong way, however. Following an off day on Tuesday, both bullpens will have all hands on deck. I don't think either side will hesitate to lift the starters should we see any signs of struggle early on. Gasser worked just four innings in his start against San Diego in the NLDS, allowing three hits and one earned run. He has yielded one earned run or less in five straight starts. Snell had major command issues in his lone NLDS start against the Braves. He does have the type of stuff that can negate those command issues at times. Of note, he allowed only one earned run despite issuing five walks in just 3 2/3 innings of work in that outing against Atlanta (and the game ultimately totalled only five runs). Both bullpens have been lights out in the playoffs with the Brewers relief corps' logging a 2.04 ERA and 0.96 WHIP and the Dodgers countering with a 0.38 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. The two teams have combined to convert six saves without blowing a single one. Off a high-scoring Game 2, look for a different story to unfold on Wednesday. Take the under.
