Off yesterday's 2-1 road loss to the Tigers and with blemishes in four of their last five games, the Dodgers will approach this matchup with a sense of urgency. Los Angeles still owns a 9.0-game advantage over San Diego and Arizona in the NL West standings and manager Dave Roberts want to push that lead to double-digits as soon as possible.
On the bump for the visitors will be right-hander Tyler Glasnow. In his first appearance since coming off the injured list in early May with lower back spasms, No. 31 faced the Braves on August 25th and was clipped for three earned runs and six hits in 5.0 innings of work. Tyler struck out seven, issued no walks, and failed to earn a decision in LA's 4-3 loss to Atlanta. Overall, with three seasons with Los Angeles, Glasnow has made 48 total starts and been scratched for 99 earned runs and 174 hits in 269.0 frames. That's good enough for a 16-9 record with a 3.31 ERA.
Hitting the hill for the home team will be left-hander Framber Valdez. In the month of August, No. 59 made five starts against the Devil Rays, Pirates, Guardians, Mariners, and Athletics, and was spanked for 13 earned runs and 33 hits in 31.1 innings. Framber fanned 19 and issued 15 free passes on his way to a 3-2 record with a 3.73 ERA. For the year, Valdez has made a grand total of 26 starts and been cracked for 70 earned runs and 148 hits in 144.2 frames. After the math, that equates to an 8-9 tally with a 4.35 ERA.
Several strong team trends support this diamond wager. Los Angeles has grabbed victories in 296 of its last 494 overall, 117 of its last 196 when coming off a loss, 137 of its last 245 as a guest, and 121 of its last 206 when priced as road chalk. On the other side of the yard, Detroit has fallen in 38 of its last 67 when facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .50 or higher.
