Analysis
The Cubs are coming into this game with a 32-27 record this season and they have been playing in some high scoring games recently. They have seen 9+ runs total in 4 of their last 5 as well as 5 of their last 7 games and their offense has been heating up again after a big slump, winning 3 of their last 4 games now as well. Their offense has been on fire recently with 5+ runs scored in each of their last 4 games, but their pitching has been very inconsistent as well, dealing with a lot of injuries. They are going up against a Cardinals team that is 30-26 this season and they have not been playing in many high scoring games recently. They are coming off of a 6-1 loss at home in their last game and their offense has been awful in recent games, losing 5 of their last 6 games as well, but they were shut down by one of the better pitching staffs in the league in the Brewers their last series and they are going to be hungry to bounce back in this very important series, scoring 6 runs in the 1st game of this series in a 6-5 win. Jordan Wicks is starting for the Cubs in this game and he is 0-1 with a 16.62 ERA this season. He only has 1 start this season and he was awful in it, allowing 8 earned runs in 4 innings in a 12-1 loss against the Pirates. He is going to be in his 2nd road start now and the Cardinals have the bats to get to him for some runs off of that bad start. Matthew Liberatore is starting for the Cardinals in this game and he is 2-3 with a 4.76 ERA this season. He has not been great this season as he has consistently allowed runs in a majority of his starts. He has allowed at least 3 earned runs in each of his last 3 as well as 4 of his last 6 starts and he has allowed 4+ earned runs in 2 of his last 3 as well. He has also struggled more at home recently as he has allowed at least 4 earned runs in 3 of his last 4 starts there. The Cubs have some momentum on their side again now that they have broken out of that slump with some better offense, so they are going to score runs in this game, but the Cardinals are going to be right there with them as well. Between these two sides, there will be enough runs in this game to push it over the total.
