- #923 NY YANKEES with Warren (-) over Athletics with Lopez at 4:05 PM EST
In a bad mood off that 6-4 road loss to the A's yesterday, the Pinstripes will respond with a whipping of their own right here. New York still trails Tampa Bay by 1.5-games in the division and manager Aaron Boone wants this win before hosting Cleveland in a two-game set starting on Tuesday.
Toeing the rubber for the visitors will be right-hander Will Warren. With five May starts in the books, No. 29 was scratched for only 14 earned runs and 23 hits in 27.0 innings. Will fanned 28 and issued nine free passes on his way to a 3-1 record with a 4.67 ERA. On the year, Warren has made 11 official starts and been nicked for only 23 earned runs and 52 hits in 58.1 frames. That adds up to a 6-1 tally with a strong 3.55 ERA.
Lefty Jacob Lopez will counter for the home squad. In the month of May, No. 57 appeared in five games (four starts) and was clipped for 15 earned runs and 28 hits in 24.0 innings. Jacob struck out 17 and walked 10 on his way to a 2-1 record with a rough 5.63 ERA. Even worse, at home this season, Lopez has been blasted for 13 earned runs and 18 hits in 19.2 frames. That adds up to an 0-1 record with a woeful 5.95 ERA.
A number of quality angles support this diamond wager. New York has grabbed wins in 13 of its last 18 against a left-handed starter, 32 of its last 47 against losing teams, and 62 of its last 115 as a guest. Meanwhile, the Athletics have fallen in 61 of their last 108 at home and 57 of their last 103 coming off a win.
The Yankees have won five of their last six and averaged 6.7 runs per game in that run and will prove to be too much for the A's to handle. Take New York with Warren. Thanks, and best of luck, Tom.
