Analysis: Arizona came into this series on a winning run, but the Diamondbacks have since cooled off in the sunny Pacific Northwest, as the surging Mariners continue to leverage favorable starting pitching matchups into victories over the first two games of this series. Now we have another significant mismatch on the mound in the finale of this three-game interleague series, and I look for the home side to once again take full advantage. Arizona turns to Merrill Kelly (5-3, 5.25 ERA), who is coming off a win over the Giants after allowing two runs over seven innings last Monday. Kelly has turned the corner and has played a big part in the D-Backs recent run, but note that he still ranks in the bottom one percent in the entire league in xERA, xSLG and xBA. The Mariners will be feeling confident they can carry over their recent momentum by handing the ball to Bryce Miller (1-0, 2.25 ERA), whose sample size is small, but still excellent, entering with a 14:2 K:BB over 16 innings pitched.
