- Analysis
- Milwaukee’s pitching advantage is reason enough to back them here on the run line Sunday against Houston. Jacob Misiorowski takes the mound for Milwaukee and he’s been one of baseball’s top young power arms with a sparkling 1.83 ERA heading into this series. Houston will counter with Tatsuya Imai, giving the Brewers the edge on starting pitching in what amounts to a series decider.
Their 9-2 loss on Saturday can also help build the Brewers a nice bounce-back case. Houston obviously got the big swings from Jeremy Pena and Christian Walker, but Milwaukee was one of the hottest teams in baseball leading up to that loss. Saturday’s game was just their fifth loss in 21. Quality teams typically don’t sit too long after a bad outing from their pitching staff, especially when their best starter is taking the ball.
Houston is swinging the bat well, but they’re still without Jose Altuve and have seen their pitching staff ravaged by injuries all season long. Milwaukee doesn’t need to mash to cover this spread. If they can strike early, Misiorowski can keep Houston’s potent lineup at bay and the Brewers defense can make Houston chase the game late.
The blueprint for the Brewers covering the run line is simple: Misiorowski limits Houston to one run over his first six innings, Milwaukee bats traffic off of Imai, and Milwaukee’s bullpen comes in and locks down a multi-run lead late.
Jim's Play: 927. Brewers -1.5 runs
