- Analysis
- Saint Peter’s can’t catch Merrimack in the Metro Atlantic standings but at 13-6, the Peacocks have put together a strong conference season, while posting top five statistics on both sides of the ball in the Metro numbers. Saint Peter’s only has three road wins in conference play, but the road defeats have come in close games with exclusively single-digit margins of defeat. In the first meeting between these teams Saint Peter’s won 69-59, even with a poor outside shooting game from the Peacocks as the rebounding edge was significant. Marist is 12-7 in conference play and the Red Foxes rank as the top defense in the conference. While Marist has a good home record, they are 0-2 S/U at home vs. top four teams in the Metro Atlantic, already taking home losses to Merrimack and Siena. Marist is a great free throw shooting team, but the Red Foxes haven’t been able to get to the line often as Saint Peter’s gets a larger share of its points at the line than Marist. The rebounding disparity could be substantial again and there should be great motivation for Saint Peter’s to lock up the #2 seed in the Metro Atlantic tournament with the top two seeds getting byes. Siena is a heavy favorite at home today in its season finale as even if Marist wins this game to tie St. Peter’s, Siena will likely move ahead of Marist as the best the Red Foxes can do is finish third unless Siena loses as a 16-point favorite, settling for the 3/6 pairing next weekend. Saint Peter’s is 7-3 S/U in the past 10 meetings including winning at Marist last March and this is the largest underdog spread in this series for the Peacocks in several years. The home road/splits boost the favorite price for Marist, but the Red Foxes are just 1-4 ATS in the past five conference games including losses in the past two home games. Saint Peter’s lacks a strong road record but they have been this substantial of a road underdog just five times this season, going 3-2 ATS.
Thank you for playing with Nelly’s and Best of Luck.
