Analysis

The Pelicans are running hot with four straight wins but not much credit is deserved for back-to-back wins vs. the Jazz. After sweeping those games in Salt Lake City including a 115-105 win Saturday, the Pelicans are now facing a third road game in four days. New Orleans has been a strong ATS team this season despite a 19-42 S/U record but New Orleans is 8-21 S/U on the road while 6-10 ATS as a single-digit road underdog. The season for the Clippers has three distinct phases but the Clippers are 11-5 S/U and 12-4 ATS in the past 16 home games since late December. Kawhi Leonard is considered probable tonight while it isn’t clear if New Orleans will have Zion Williamson or Trey Murphy. These teams played on Halloween at the Intuit Dome and the Clippers were an 11-point favorite as this line remains reasonable. Los Angeles is quietly on a 6-1 ATS run since early February and the Clippers have a solid recent profile defensively even if the offensive results have been uneven. Los Angeles is in the #10 position in the Western Conference standings with some chance of mobility upward as there is still an incentive for this group, particularly riding three consecutive losses heading into Sunday. New acquisition Dejounte Murray is also a question mark Sunday after sitting out yesterday’s game as the Pelicans could have a patchwork lineup as the team goes for a fifth straight win. Not surprisingly teams on four-game winning streaks that are dogged by eight or more points own a lousy 76-93-5 ATS mark historically in the NBA going back to the 1990-91 season.
