With a little steam off last night's 5-0 shutout home win over the Phillies, the Dodgers will make it two straight when the Giants come to town. Los Angeles is clinging to a 2.0-game advantage over San Diego in the NL West standings and manager Dave Roberts and his crew can't afford to slip up in this division battle.
Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound for the home team. So far this season, No. 18 has made a grand total of 28 starts and allowed 48 earned runs and 108 hits in 162.1 innings of work. Yoshinobu struck out 187 and walked 51 on his way to a 11-8 record with a 2.66 ERA. Facing the Giants, Orioles, and Diamondbacks in his last three performances, Yamamoto was scratched for only three earned runs and six hits in 22.2 frames. That equates to a phenomenal 1.19 ERA.
Veteran righty Logan Webb will get the nod for the visitors. With a whopping 31 starts completed, No. 62 has been popped for 70 earned runs and 195 hits in 188.2 innings of work. Logan fanned 206 and issued 43 free passes on his way to a 14-10 tally with a 3.34 ERA. However, in three September outings versus the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Rockies, Webb was waxed for nine earned runs and 22 hits in 15.0 frames. That equates to a 2-1 mark with a soft 5.40 ERA.
Several highly profitable angles support this selection. Los Angeles has tasted victory in 294 of its last 495 overall, 165 of its last 292 when coming off a win, 160 of its last 244 when playing in the comforts of home, and 99 of its last 157 in division play. On the other side of the yard, San Francisco has slipped in 81 of its last 144 when priced as a road underdog.
