Analysis: A.L. Total of the Week. My selection is on the 'under' between Seattle and Kansas City at 2:10 pm et on Thursday. This has been a high-scoring series to this point as the two offenses continue to perform well down the stretch. I think we're in for a lower-scoring affair on Thursday, however, so we'll take the contrarian route and back the 'under'. Both of today's starting pitchers have been performing well lately. Luis Castillo has had his share of struggles this season but enters off back-to-back quality outings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits over 12 innings against the Braves and Angels. Royals starter Stephen Kolek has impressively worked at least six innings in four straight starts, allowing just six earned runs in 25 2/3 frames over that stretch. In three starts since joining the Royals by way of the Padres he has posted a terrific 0.76 WHIP. We're also working with two bullpens that are viable with the Mariners recording a 3.38 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over the last week and the Royals with a solid long-term track record, a 3.47 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over the last month.
